Conroe, as the county seat of Montgomery County, dates back to Civil War veteran Isaac Conroe. Over time, Conroe survived epidemics and early 20th Century fires before oil discovery brought renewed economic expansion.

Conroe Main Street Advisory Board recently offered its recommendations for downtown redesign, economic vitality and promotions. Carla Alsandor, chair of organization committee for Conroe Live, noted they also recommended re-establishing it as a nonprofit in order to apply for grants and fundraise for Conroe Live District.
Lake Conroe
Lake Conroe was constructed as an alternative water supply source for Houston in 1973, serving both as an enjoyable recreational spot and alternative water source. Boating, fishing, swimming, camping and golfing activities can all take place here.
